The wrap up is not perfect but acceptable. Ian McDiarmid's performance helped a lot. Of course the feeling is different when you watch Return of Jedi in concert with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

Millennium Falcon is so poor, Poe sailed her same as Han. She should be happy when Lando handles her again if you have watched Solo, A Star Wars Story.

When was Rey's father born? BTW General Hux & Knights of Ren are a bit wasted in this episode. Knights of Ren are the same.

I think Ben's redemption is better handled than Anakin becoming Sith

Skywalkers died togerher with Siths but it becomes a legend when Rey calls herself as a Skywalker. Is the yellow lightsaber means balance of force? Will someone find Skywalkers' lightsabers for another journey?

This movie is brilliant. It is modern but the setting is so familiar for those reading Agatha Christie. The twists inside are even more than those in Murder of Orient Express or Muder of Roger Ackroyd but viewers would not mix up different clues. The final solution is out of expectation. BTW will it be novelized?

Rian Johnson should focus more on crime ficition movies instead of working in another Star Wars trilogy. The Last Jedi is far beyond die-hard Star Wars' fans imgation. But from Star Wars he can make Frank Oz to appear here.

Daniel Craig can consider to reprise the role after his last James Bond movie if there is any sequel. Chris Evans is playing a role totally different from MCU. But he is still Captain America in many people's mind. Others are playing great too but the story limits their character screen time.

The story has a better balance to attract wider range of audiences. The original series is targeted for adults.

And this one the actress is able to tell more about her background. I just think what she is doing when autobots are back to public.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Is the Force so strong for Luke & Leia? But the story behind Luke & his cousin is reasonable for this consequence. Snoke's death is too weak but the fight afterwards is cool. Such a waste for Captain Phasma & Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo.

Solo: A Star Wars Story - Rouge One is too strong. The story is actually better than the Last Jedi but the story is a bit straight forward. Maul showing his saber is a bit odd. Is there any story to explain Maul's faith as shown in Rebels?

Incredibles 2 - same as Solo the story is straight forward. Where is the Underminer?

Murder on the Orient Express

I read the book for over a decade ago. There was a TV adaption with Toby Jones & Jessica Chastain starring seven years ago. Both are vague in my memory now. As a fan of Agatha Christie's Poirot, It's time to refresh my memory with the new movie with so many famous stars including Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Olivia Coleman & Daisy Ridley (shortly before jumping into a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away).

The impression of David Suchet as Hercule Poiro already sets as a role model of the character in my generation. Kenneth Branagh acts as Poirot is relatively odd even though he has tried his best. Choosing Johnny Depp as the bad guy may be the most right choice at all. The most attractive character except them is only the one by Daisy Ridley.

The addition of what happened in Jerusalem helps create the atmosphere for rest of the movie. The place is carefully selected to make more sense why the train is stopped in middle of nowhere and visual effects.

The story is so famous as the ending is so unexpected. But in between the novel uses lots of content to develop characters and the relationship. That is challenging to convert the plot into a film and the movie cannot take a balance. Only Agatha Christie's fans like me are interested in the movie. 

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

It's a different style of movie from Dunkirk. Visual effect is the key and the story is reasonably fine. The major drawback is too early to let the audience know who the antagonist is. Another is the lead actor. He is young but seems alcoholic.

Even airtime of Rihanna is short, the role she plays really fits her. And what unexpected is Cara Delevingne. Of course the director can choose another model for those "model" scenes, she handles the remaining part well.

The movie is based on French Comic, directed by a French director & supported by French capital, but the lead actor said he doesn't know French. And nearly all main casts are from UK. That is so ironic. There are few scenes showing Chinese things due to Chinese support but the last spaceship is so alike Apollo Command/Service Module.

Dunkirk

Please don't expect what you watch is same as other movies directed by Nolan. Unlike other war movies just showing single side of view, you can feel what he wants you to take away from the movie in multiple angles. You can understand why characters behave like that.

Below is updated on 6 Aug after watching another movie...
Previously Nolan used other movies to try to tell a fake story as real as possible. This one, on the other hand, he wants to integrate several fake stories into a real story in a whole and I think he has done it successfully. What top level told the public is actually different from what the soldiers and those laymen saving soldiers felt in their heart.

rogue one & passengers

Rogue One - I love it for its well connection of events in Starwars universe. And that is cool to see characters and events from The Clone Wars, Rebels and also the Main Saga to come back. The only worry is how good will be for coming two films on Han Solo & Boba Fett?

Passengers - I'm just interested in two things, animation & Jennifer Lawrence... I don't mean I do not respect Jennifer Lawrence. But I cannot find anything else can attract me when comparing to Rogue One. There are several faults in the story making me a step back from saying the film is good, like how would a person like to sleep for 120 years? How can the company apply the loans & capital from stakeholders for such a long period?

Finding Dory

Piper - The background is made as so damned real. The story is simple but meaningful.

Flaws are including not many species of fish living in salty water can survive in fresh water. And how can the pipes of Marine Life Institute connect to sea outside directly? But without these, the story cannot go on.

The surprise brought is weaker than Toy Story 3 or Inside Out. I'm really working on how the story is  in Cars 3 and Toy Story 4.

the abominable bride

First half is brilliant enough even those who did not watch the tv series before can understand. But second half you need to have some background before. And the frequent time traveling made that worse. Is that because both are working on Doctor Who too much?

Is that the first time to formally incorporate the actual scene of the original story even the story line has been tuned? Is Mary also hired by Mycroft or just imagination? Is the line of Moriarty finally ended? Sherlock really wants his brother to die faster while his mind is attracted to Irene. He thinks Hooper wants to show something to him. Using Christmas special to explain Sherlock back from exile earlier can make Series four a reboot.

Make up of Mycroft is funny. First part of additional footage is nice but later part, just like the special, becomes boring.

Who is the wise man to find and keep the fraction of the location of first Jedi temple where Luke is hiding and hated by Kylo Ren? Wookieepedia said he is under the group of people close to Jedis. But why did Luke leave the clue to him/them?

How is the fate of other Jedis under old Jedi Order like those in Star Wars: Rebels?

Is BB-8 weaker than R2 as it cannot fly?

Kylo is strong in getting other's mind & control blaster bolts. He should be able to fight against Rey but he was hurt. Kylo is right to wear a mask as he really doesn't look alike Leia or Han Solo. His temper sucks even comparing with other people using dark side. Has Leia, Han or Luke told what Anakin did and how he redeemed? What is his relationship with General Hux?

Poe is obviously not Force-sensitive.

Is there any chip in Finn when stormtroopers were brainwashed just like clones? Is he Force-sensitive?

Has Captain Phasma removed her helmet in the film? Is she so weak? Has she escaped from garbage chute before the base explosion?

What has happened before Rey was left behind Jakku? Who has said to her to keep quiet? How does she know the Jedi tricks? Does she relate to Kenobi? 1. Romance between Obi-Wan & Duchess Satine; 2. The lightsaber was used by Anakin, Obi-Wan, Luke & Rey; 3. Strong Jedi Mind Trick which Obi-Wan was strong on; & 4. Ewan McGregor voiced Obi-Wan again when Rey first touched the saber.

I really think Harrison Ford would wannabe Indiana Jones more than Han Solo. How was the faith of Han's freighter? Would it be used to pay for his debt by Guavian Death Gang or Kanjiklub? Ben is really the sting in Han's mind. How will Han be presented in next film? Force ghost?

Has Chewie got old?

Is Snoke one of the inquisitors under Galactic Empire? He is strong with Force and only two types of people can be allowed to be Force-sensitive in the Empire. One is Sith but only two allowed (Emperor & Vader) while another are inquisitors.

Why did Luke not stop Kyle to kill the Padawans? Has Obi-Wan or Yoda done something to stop?

How can the super-weapon of Starkiller Base destroy several planets nearby as the same time?

You will feel better if you don't know or forget the original story line.

Timing to release may not be right. It should be shown during summer vacation or Christmas season as it is a movie for kids.

The story is a bit too fast at the beginning but it is reasonable afterwards. Ideas like flying pirate ship is quite fresh. But why Tiger Lily is white?

There are rooms to develop on some characters but it fails to do that. Obviously if there is a subsequent, it will talk about the broke up of Peter & Captain Hook. 

Does Mary know the orphanage is linked with pirates? Does Blackbeard really die?

Lava - did pixar use the wrong item to show the love story?

I still don't like Sadness after the story anyway even that makes Riley in balance. Personally what I need is more Joy. Such a sad thing Bing Bong cannot be back to Riley's mind. Something should long live!

Can the train of thought be rebuilt? What will be happened if Joy & Sadness cannot be back to the Headquarters? i.e. the control console is disabled & Riley really goes back to Minnesota?

P.S. does the film mean cat's emotions suck?

the imitation game

The last of the movies to watch in early this year and this is another British one. Luckily watched it before it is going to be removed from the big screen. The main reason in my list is the performance of Benedict Cumberbatch in sherlock and want to see what the difference is another piece of work. Another reason is I'm interested in nearly everything on WWII.

Eyebrows of young turning is so long. For viewers this is the key way to make him distinguish from other pupils in the school. His affair with Christopher really affected his whole wife. Even the machine is also named Christopher. Is really "Sometimes it is the people no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine"? Only thing I can figure of is the concentration they can put when comparing to the normal people.

My memory of Keira Knightley is still back from Love Actually. She is much older here. BTW her last make-up after WWII makes me think of the one in The Duchess.

Another thing in the film related to Cumberbatch is the discovery of the breakthrough is so "House" which is derived from fictions of Sherlock Holmes.

I had a thought that there would be a cameo of Winston Churchill as he allowed the team to run smooth and the best chance was head of MI6 reading the work at Churchill War Rooms.

The handling method of the end was quite similar to American Sniper. Both are sad one. The words from Clarke could only extend Turing's life for one more year. What would happen if he stayed alive longer?

The film time-line is very well calculated and very smart to port to the actual footage on pass away of the main character. But I cannot recognise Sienna Miller.

There are few things that can be better:

1. No armoured skirt for M1?
2. Miller's pregnancy belly was very fake
3. Do those rookie marines really suck even don't understand hand signals?
4. Why didn't the team use M203 when they are surrounded by the insurgents after killing Mustafa?

Why did they change the actor of Stuart from Xander Berkeley who is not unknown and also good to act as a bad guy?

As Brian was so smart in the field before, why didn't he think he was set up from someone a bit close to him immediately?

How could Brian leave the lift trunk before the explosion? His age didn't reflect his mobility at all. Also is the Porsche so damned strong?
